The facilities guy in our building has a SQL database running on his XP workstation. He's using it to monitor some of the HVAC equipment in the building, taking data points, etc. He wants me to backup the database. Anything special I should know on how to go about using DPM to back that up?

Thanks!

Rob

Haven't tried that, but I don't think you'll have any issues. Just be sure the XP (SP2+) machine has SQL server version supported by DPM (2000 SP4+, 2005 SP1+, 2005 SP2+, 2008/R2).

Thanks! Do I try to back it up as a server or as a client?

Sorry Rob, we only do server protection, no clients at all, so can't help you there. IIRC that would only differ in the consumed license anyway? But since XP counts as client, I'd go with client protection.
