Besides Intermedia, and Microsoft itself (O365 - Exchange Online), I noticed this company whose headquarters are in Sherbrooke, Québec, Canada:

Of course, they have a website - I just found the Wiki summary nice and concise.
Who are the other major players in this domain - hosted email and hosted Exchange in particular?
Yes, I've googled and come up with all kinds of advertisers including Go Daddy and Rackspace.
I'm just asking those who might know the names of the 5-10 key players in the sector (out of curiosity).
North America in particular - either based here or with significant client base here.

| I think once you start looking around you will find the major Telcos have services around this space now as well. Verizon Business & ATT to name just a couple. |

Bumping this again, as I'm thinking about doing this (moving all my personal email out of an onsite Exchange 2003 box) and retiring it. My MB is just shy of 2 gigs and I don't anticipate it will grow much beyond 10 to 20 gigs.
I have vanity domain with GoDaddy, like everyone else, they have HE at $ 4 - $8 a month.
?s to those who have taken the plunge already:
- is "Journal" gone in later versions of Exchange beyond 2003 and in HE? I have 10 years of data in my home Outlook client I'd like to keep and not loose (unless I can just move it to another folder within the MB). GoDaddy's HE does not support it.
- Is Lync typically supported in based packages or offered only as an add on.
Anyone heard good/bad about GoDaddy's HE?

| Dave, "JUST" from what I have read and seen on Twitter Go Daddy is a steaming pile of sith... I have not used them myself but there seems to be a very traceable trend as to NOT use them. Just throwing that out there so you don't kick yourself later... |

I have never had any issues with Godaddy's services. And their tech support has been top notch for me.
The only issue I have seen was when there was a call to ban Godaddy over something they said regarding copyright or something, but that is a political issue, not a technical one.

Thanks for the responses. I've contacted an IT services company my sister is using since she went out on her own about a year ago (she runs a company that manages Electronic Medical Record system implemenations, which is a growth area of IT at the moment, thanks to Obamacare). They re-sell HE from Microsoft. I've checked with 2 - 3 others including Rackspace and oddly, no one is selling Lync at this point (are the other solutions that much better?)
I plan to ask them if they have any backup plan for HE when it goes down, but don't expect much. During the 2 years post-implementation of BPOS/Office 365 at the Fortune 100 company I worked at, our HE went down every couple of months for at least a few minutes or half a day (one time due to a switch going bad in a MS datacenter IIRC). There were also regular scheduled outages during the weekends for maintenance.
On the other hand, I have neither the time or desire to run Exchange out of my home any longer. I'm OK with paying someone for that service.
As far as the Pop/SMTP mail I've had with GoDaddy for my vanity personal domain over the last 6 years, I can only remember 1 or 2 downtimes, and they weren't all that long.

Jim,
Most HE players contracts/ SLA allow then to bring it down once a month, out of hours for a scheduled maintenance window.
Hosted Lync is fun.....we built it out with some serious help, but we also have voice breakout as well. There are not too many hosted Lync platforms out there for that reason.
With regard email, most hosters will backup your data for between 30 and maybe 90 days, after that, if you want more you need an extra service or a third party. Assume their MX backup will cover off times when their service is down or unavailable.

I'm on Office 365 with my business and am very happy with the availability. Can't recall a single occasion where I could not send, receive or connect to my mailbox. Recently I had a minor issue with Lync availability of federated partners which was resolved in hours. Also have some SMB customers and a bit larger ones (1200 mailboxes) on Office 365 and they're all satisfied.
Out of interest I look at the offerings of third party hosters too now and then but did not see any compelling reasons to consider them above Microsoft. Just for what's it worth... |

That's what I'm thinking ESPECIALLY when you are in the education sector (K-12 in USA) and can get at least some of the Office 365 features for FREE.
What can the "middleman" offer that makes the additional price worth it? |

Can't speak for the US, but in Europe we offer Voice Breakout from Lync.
Yes its hard to compete with the pricing that MS offer, but some Partners like owning the billing piece, helps the customer remember they get profession services from them. |
