I backed up a vista laptop. Loade Win7. Restored files. They all seem to be on the laptop now, but all in the wrong directories and the system still looks the same as when the win7 loaded, as if I had not restored a backup.... clues?

Second question - I backed up another system to a flash drive., which now I find out, can't be restored. Can I copy the files to the new system in a directory where the restore will find them and run?

What program did you use for the backups? If I were going to change OSes, I would have just copied files & not used anything to create a compressed file.
