4/26/2012 Update:
Everyone:
This is the final attendance list I have from forum, speaker, and hotel registrations. I have left off last names for privacy reasons. If you do not see your name here and you have registered, please contact me offlist via my forum ID to confirm your attendance so I can make sure we have a count to give Founders for meals, etc. Looking forward to seeing everyone again, see you all on Sunday.

3/29/2012 Update:
Just a final reminder, if you even THINK you can come, you should reserve your hotel rooms with Founders by Saturday, March 31st to guarantee that you will have a room available to you. I believe you can cancel reservations up to 72 hours before the date, but please confirm with them.
3/5/2012 Update:
Just a reminder, if you are PLANNING on coming, please reserve your rooms with Founders by 3/31 so we have a more accurate headcount (and also so you are sure you have a room). If you could also confirm attendance (you can pay the fee later) on Mark's website, that would be appreciated, so we have a good idea of the headcount.
I understand that last minute plans may change and some of you will not be able to make it, but we'll need as accurate a headcount as we can for meals etc.

Conference Reservation: http://www.minasi.com/seminar-register.htm
1/26/2012 Update:
Links to register for the 2012 conference has been added here:
http://minasiconference.wordpress.com/registration/
and here:
http://minasi.com/seminar-register.htm
The conference fee this year is as follows:
$450 without spouse $525 with spouse (no jokes please)
Joe is working away at the speaker roster, I expect it will be finalized soon. This year we plan to go to Aldo's on Monday night - Mark has said that they have great Italian food.
OK, the dates and hotel have been confirmed:
Dates: Sunday, April 29th to Wednesday, May 2nd
Location:Founders Inn, Virginia Beach, VA http://www.foundersinn.com/
We are returning to Founders again this year because they offer good meeting facilities (we've reserved the Jefferson room Amphitheater again), reasonable costs for hotel rooms and dining options onsite.
Costs and other details This information is for budgeting purposes (except the hotel room rates, which are final). The final figures will be announced later.
The hotel rates negotiated are $110/night single occupancy $119/night double occupancy.
10/21/2011 Update: We've finalized the room arrangements with the hotel, if you want to contact them here this is the link they've setup for our group:
https://booking.ihotelier.com/istay/istay.jsp?groupID=675966&hotelID=73524
and make your room reservations now. Alternatively you can call them, just mention the Minasi 2012 Internet Forum to get the rates we've negotiated.
Please note: Founders has requested that all reservations be made by 3/31/2012 at the latest, so please plan accordingly. If you book after that date, room availability may not be guaranteed.
We have budgeted costs based on the assumption that at least 30 persons will attend. Costs for conference will include:
- per person attendee costs for the the conference room (includes beverages and lunch on the full days we meet) and - a reception Sunday night and an offsite dinner night out (probably Monday).
The conference costs, agenda and speakers et cetera and link to pay will be setup at a later date. The costs of the hotel and travel are the responsibility of attendees. Assuming at least 30 people attend, the conference costs should be in the range of last time, but I would budget $400-$600 for the conference, to be finalized later.
Forum moderators, can we make this a sticky? I don't see an option to make this post sticky, and the codes to bold text etc. don't seem to work for me.

All I can say is Awesome!!! I felt like I've been in a dark cloud the past year and need some enlighting rays from Va Beach to clear it away. Thanks to all you brought this together and of course thanks to Mark for bringing us together.

So, we are on. Good. Now for the content. I will alert the Penton folks to see if we can get some press.
Topics. Very important this year. I hope we get more than thirty.

| Would it be possible to have a "long session" with a side by side of Hyper-V and it's latest improvements and VMware 5..? I mean to actually see - same time - their differences performing the same tasks which may help a shop make a decision IF either fits their needs better than the other. It seems (from what I am reading only) that they are very similar in their functionality just the How To is different. |

I would love to hear somebody present on SAN technologies, and what the gotchas are, upsides, downsides, etc...
And on the Hyper-V/VMWare thing, I'd like to see (or even just hear) the different ways both approach high availability. |

Would there be any interest in having a presentation on any of the following? Google Apps - How our school is using this to provide students email and shared applications. Would open the control manager and show the settings that can be managed with the product and show what we are using for our students and with them in the classroom.
Application Repackaging - Products like InstallShield and the soon to be dead Wise Package Studio for software automation and deployment. Could show the creation of a transform with either or both tools and talk about some best practices that no one ever talks about. Transitioning from XP to Win 7 how we are making a business transition of applications. APP-V - Presentation on creating an application that is deployed in the virtual application arena of the virtual bubble.
I could do a presentation for this stuff if it would be of value.

Lol. Anything virtual? Start with servers, then desktops, then apps?
I can do the server/workstation part, have nought experience with virtualising apps beside providing the infrastructure. |

Heh, think we could get Ton to do some SQL, powershell and IPSec as well.
Sure its virtually all the same.
I'll not bother asking if you can do a chicken wings cookery demo Ton. I don't fancy my chances on your cooking ability. |

Serious moment for me.
just to confirm what James has originally mentioned.
Invites are outbound to previous speakers.
If I haven't mailed you and you have spoken previously or want to have a go let me know by email or a message through the forum.
If there is anyone you'd like us to invite, again let me know. All the intelligent ones will be invited.
Anyone got Mark Russinovich's email address?

Just got the invite. I'll be there. Any topics in particular folks would like to see me present on?
Wondering if something interactive-ish would be fun and useful. Like, you bring all the PowerShell stuff that doesn't mAke sense to you, and I explain it. Plus bring some fun tips, and maybe offer ways to explain the difficult stuff to the folks back home?
But I'm up for whatever. PowerShell, IIS, SQL Server, whatever.
Oh, and Macs. In a business environment. And I do iOS dev now :). |

That is where I was going. I could help with apps . I see Don is coming which is very cool. How about Greg? I know he has looked at all of these ways to virtualize apps as well.
If we have a lab for all the hypervisors we could install the virt desktops, virt apps. A bake off ;)
the infrastructure is the hard part. perhaps utilizing a cloud areas such as Azure (MSFT),Amazon(Xen),Terramark(VMware)...

I have been asking (border line pestering) the other Mark about possibly attending and doing an Azure demo.
Perhaps someone who has his ear could request his attendance..? |

Are we going to have the same thing as last time, where we had full sessions and also a bunch of smaller 15 or 20 minute sessions for brief topics?
By April, I'm assuming someone will be able to show off some of Windows 8 and PowerShell v3? Think there will be a bunch of other new Microsoft stuff coming out around then.

Would there be interest in SharePoint? I'm 100% certain I'm going to keep this on my calendar, but not buying airline tickets just yet. I sure hope I'll be able to carve out the time and $$ to get there for my first Minasi conference.
Regarding SharePoint, I still feel like after 3 years there is way more about SharePoint that I don't know, than I do know, but I would be willing to do a SharePoint 101 for those who haven't had the pleasure yet of working with the product, if they are interested. (Hitting on it mostly from a Server Admin point of view, but partly to address "what's all the fuss about?" as well.)
Yes - my tongue was planted firmly in cheek when I wrote "pleasure" of working with SharePoint. :-)

Would be great to see an application run APP-V from an Azure server in the cloud. Want to see it done and then talk about the hurdles of old school thinking and how the corporations needs to move on from thinking they need to have it all local for all to work. Would like to hear some conversation about cloud and all the regulations seen in the USA and other country issues as it fits with cloud migrations.
The other Mark would be a great addition to talk about these topics, as we will have people from both sides of the pond to talk on the topic. |

Got the invite, i will be there. Happy to do some stuff on App V that Ton was mentioning. I have a wide array of things i could talk on really, maybe (by then) even some stuff on the new version of office which will include items such as: Office, Dynamics, Sharepoint workspaces etc. Lots of very cool things on the horizon, but not sure when they can be discussed just yet. |
