| Just a quick question: is the hotel already fully booked for those dates? I've tried their site and some others to get an idea of pricing and there no available rooms. |

Hi, no it is definitely not booked then!
Price wise we are aiming for $99 per night but still have to finalise things so it may be a few $ more.
Cheers Nathan

OH, and IMPORTANT NOTE:
The room block will be released 30 days PRIOR to the conference (which limits how much we're responsible for attrition) so book SOON! |

| I really wish I could make it this year. Although I've only been on this site for a short time, I have gained so much from it. I will begin planning for next year now... Have to get it approved through work... |

What about some sort of collaborative session?
For example, Scott ("Perfessor") mentioned that one of those power supply tester doodads are a great addition to any troubleshooter's toolbox. What if we asked everyone to bring their best three tips and tools and we did some sort of mashup of it?
Now, some people might feel that they wouldn't have anything that would be "good enough" for this "expert crowd," but personally I've never met a techie that I couldn't get an idea from. So perhaps a way for people to suggest their tips anonymously? Someone could then chair a session where we read 'em off and if someone wants to ask questions or to drop their anonymity an illuminate further then we could do that.
When it's all said and done, I could write it up and put it up on the Web. Any thoughts? (Feel free to tell me that it's a dumbass idea.) |

Not at all, (dumbass idea that is!)
We have slots for two panel sessions.
One is currently, how to survive in IT as a freelancer. The other is a kind of ask the expert, design questions session.
Happy to adjust these as people see fit. Even happy to have a bunch of session ideas and then have people vote on the first day. |

Hi, Happy New year everyone. I don't know if I can make this years forum meet, as if I get through the lottery stage I am planning to run the NY Marathon in November and this will be my trip to the US this year. Nathan, Mark...I think it would be quite nice to see a live migration in virtual labs of some products. Some people might know stuff but others might not. There are a lot of new products out. For example AD from 2003 to 2008 R2. Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010. SQL 2005 to 2008 R2. Sharepoint 2003/2007 to 2010. There are quite a lot of options, especially the 64-bit only requirements for many new products. I'm pretty sure we all know the AD stuff but it might be nice to see the other products in a live upgrade/migration - rather than just a simple (or not so simple some of the time!) live demo of a new products functionality. Regards |

| If Live Migration is wanted then I can cover design, how it works, things to watch out for. Seeing the process take place is pretty dull ... progress bar, progress bar, progress bar ... done. |

| I could remote into a Vmware Vsphere Lab and show off the VMware side of "live Migration etc " Perhaps Aidan and I could work together for a product comparison of some sort. Now that would be cool. I really like both hyper v and vmware to be honest. |

I think possible James was talking about a traditional migration done live - ie exchange 2000 - 2010 for example.
However the VM idea also sounds rather good! |

Hands on Migration shop. Good Idea.
I was thinking like having a volunteer get in a box and we use a saw. Then we.... Whoops!!!!! wrong conference.
What I meant to say was have the VM machines and have volunteers be walked through the process. The staged upgrade from SQL 2000 to SQL 2008 for example or moving a SQL to an new server and now we have to get the Share Point application server to know where the data is, etc. Those heart stopping moments of incontinence, that I've seen on the faces of IT managers when the unthinkable occurs.
I like that.

Nathan, was just at the website and noticed that the Pre-con is between 8:30 and 12:30, and the actual conference starts at 1:00. For the people doing the Pre-con, will 30 minutes be enough for them to get something to eat and be back in time to register for the main conference and attend the Opening Session? Or is linch provided on the Sunday as well for them?
So Roger Grimes is confirmed as a speaker as well? Cool, I liked his presentation last year.

| Would there be any interest in a Powershell session, maybe spiced up with a walk through of some of Powershell editors/tools out there ? |

Claus, a powershell session would be cool and the editor bit would be a good help.
Seeing as its being spoken about, what about a SBS Migration, which also could cover a domain X to domain Y migration, and a limited Exchange migration? This would be based on the MS methods. |

| Aidan, I'd love to see the live migration stuff. Heck, it'd be interesting to see one of the new R2 clusters set up, given that it's very different from earlier clusters. |

Upgrading and Migrations should certainly be on the ticket. With the 2008 era technologies here - and having been here for a couple of years now - we are all being faced with moving off the 2003 era technologies and on to 2008.
