I was deploying Kaspersky Antivirus clients to PC's, networked with my Server 2003, using the Kaspersky Administration Kit! Since, the PC's are networked in workgroup, I had some problems deploying the packages from the server to other PC's. So I had first to set password to the local Administrator(the build-in account)account on every local machine, then to open the $admin share with disabling the Simple file transfer...
In the Mark's book Server 2003, there is chapter about software deployment, but only in a domain environment, not in workgroup. Will be someone that kind to explain what is $admin share, Simple file transfer and so, all about? |

I haven't used Kaspersky Antivirus, but their installation documents ( http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208280739 ) looks pretty straight forward. The admin$ is a default share of the Windows folder on Windows machines, but the firewall needs to opened for whatever ports Kaspersky needs in addition to file and printing to push the client. Another option, if the push installation doesn't work, is to use the standalone installation package per the same document. Simple File Sharing is simply an easy way to share disks or folders in XP, but by turning it off, you get more control over the permissions to individual users.
