Nathan-

The links are up on Slide[] but I can't access them. I'm not sure if it is because we block them where I work. Anyone else having problems getting to them?

Thanks,

Jim Adgate

Just following up on the conference:

Any idea when the PP's will be available? Just wanted to review them again before the information recedes into the fog of my memory banks..

List of Activities.

#1 Go to Hooters
#2 Convince the retired navy seals in the bars to not kick our butts when we have too much too drink.

Babscoole Posted - 04/20/2010 : 09:54:40 AM
Did the list of local activities ever get put together/posted?
clarinathan Posted - 02/15/2010 : 7:45:18 PM
My wife is coming and as a pennance, she is putting together a list of local activities which will we get up on the website soon!

FYI for all the attendees bringing wives/spouses/girlfriends...this hotel has a full featured SPA. A selling point I guess BUT something that should be planned for from a $$ perspective.

Its been spoken about on the last two meetings but what about documentation, the paper work behind server reports, change requests, project work, site surveys?
I know we have a few BYOQ sessions, what if people brought their documentation templates, stuff that your chuffed with.

I ask because some of ours is kinda lame.
Documents that we have that are a work in progress are as follows;
DNS Change Request.
Site Survey
Server Report
Migration Document
Incident report
Proposal Document
Project Plan

I can bring a template of each and a working example and work up a demo version, anyone else?

Backups, deduping, deduplicaton, and the art of backups and more importantly restoring. Block level backups, tape, disk, online/offsite what's an admin to do these days. I would love for admins to share what they are doing these days.

Still waiting for final approval to attend. If they turn me down, I will discuss with the wife and maybe pay for the seminar adventure myself.
JSCLMEDAVE Posted - 01/12/2010 : 2:35:14 PM
If I am able to attend, my wife will be there as well.
ukinahan Posted - 01/12/2010 : 2:33:33 PM
I'm sure my wife will be there again this year
clarinathan Posted - 01/12/2010 : 03:08:33 AM
Well it's possible!
My wife will be there.

Anyone else bringing a partner?
wobble_wobble Posted - 01/11/2010 : 6:21:34 PM
In an effort to save my thin skin, I have to ask, will there ever be a Minasi Forum Members Partners Conference and will a topic be 'Very Forgiving...'?

I like Dave's idea. If we don't get a presenter to do a full session on PowerShell, have a few shorter sessions on PowerShell. Maybe one on what's new in PowerShell v2 as an overview, then a more detailed one remoting or creating Cmdlets or something. Claus' suggestion on tools or editors to use for PowerShell would be good as well.

Any takers interested in doing a presentation?

Powershell, migrations of any flavor. It's all good stuff. ~ 111 days to go.

I would love a powershell session. It might be able to be worked into some of the smaller sessions...1/2 hour on Powershell intro, 1/2 hour on intermediate...maybe?

I think possible James was talking about a traditional migration done live - ie exchange 2000 - 2010 for example.

However the VM idea also sounds rather good!

Yes, I did mean application migrations, although live migration would be good too. Powershell demos as well would be very good.
DennisMCSE Posted - 01/09/2010 : 6:13:04 PM
I'd be interested in a PowerShell session. PowerShell v2 has a lot of improvements over PowerShell v1, it would be nice to see what the differences are. There are a lot of free and low cost editors and tools out there that it would be good for people to know what they are as well.

Upgrading and Migrations should certainly be on the ticket. With the 2008 era technologies here - and having been here for a couple of years now - we are all being faced with moving off the 2003 era technologies and on to 2008.

Aidan, I'd love to see the live migration stuff. Heck, it'd be interesting to see one of the new R2 clusters set up, given that it's very different from earlier clusters.
wobble_wobble Posted - 01/09/2010 : 07:22:13 AM
Claus, a powershell session would be cool and the editor bit would be a good help.

Seeing as its being spoken about, what about a SBS Migration, which also could cover a domain X to domain Y migration, and a limited Exchange migration? This would be based on the MS methods.
Xenophane Posted - 01/09/2010 : 05:55:33 AM
Would there be any interest in a Powershell session, maybe spiced up with a walk through of some of Powershell editors/tools out there ?
clarinathan Posted - 01/08/2010 : 1:02:19 PM
Yes, lunch will be provided for those going to Precon and will we sign them in before pre-con starts so all they will have to do is get some food!
DennisMCSE Posted - 01/08/2010 : 11:40:28 AM
Nathan, was just at the website and noticed that the Pre-con is between 8:30 and 12:30, and the actual conference starts at 1:00. For the people doing the Pre-con, will 30 minutes be enough for them to get something to eat and be back in time to register for the main conference and attend the Opening Session? Or is linch provided on the Sunday as well for them?

So Roger Grimes is confirmed as a speaker as well? Cool, I liked his presentation last year.

Curt Posted - 01/08/2010 : 11:01:06 AM
Hands on Migration shop.
Good Idea.

I was thinking like having a volunteer get in a box and we use a saw. Then we....
Whoops!!!!! wrong conference.

What I meant to say was have the VM machines and have volunteers be walked through the process. The staged upgrade from SQL 2000 to SQL 2008 for example or moving a SQL to an new server and now we have to get the Share Point application server to know where the data is, etc.
Those heart stopping moments of incontinence, that I've seen on the faces of IT managers when the unthinkable occurs.

I like that.

I could remote into a Vmware Vsphere Lab and show off the VMware side of "live Migration etc " Perhaps Aidan and I could work together for a product comparison of some sort. Now that would be cool. I really like both hyper v and vmware to be honest.
